The holistic approcah to poverty
The Good Neighbour is a new five-part docuseries created by Compassion Australia that explores the reality of poverty and how it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This series gives a voice to the real stories of people living in poverty and explores the complexity of poverty and its devastating effects on the lives of vulnerable children. We look at Compassion’s holistic approach to development and dive into what the Bible says about poverty. The docuseries uncovers what it truly means for us to be a good neighbour to those who need our compassion the most. Poverty is complex and about more than just income or material wealth. Children living in poverty often suffer from poor health, violence, malnutrition, exploitation and a lack of access to education, setting the stage for lifelong destructive patterns. These are also accompanied by feelings of guilt, shame, powerlessness, inferiority and despair. Poverty has a devastating impact on every area of life, and to those living in it every day, it feels like something that cannot change. This episode explores poverty through the lens of those closest to it. Learn about what poverty looks like in the developing world so you can be a good neighbour to the most vulnerable among us.
Episode 2: The holistic approach to poverty
Poverty can look different from country to country and child to child, but its impact remains devastating. The needs of each child are varied, so Compassion’s approach is to care for them spiritually, economically, socio-emotionally and physically. We believe every child is special and uniquely made by God, so everything we do is tailored to meet their specific needs. In this episode, we will explore Compassion’s holistic approach to poverty and how we partner with local churches to serve children around the world.
