What is Poverty?

The Good Neighbour is a new five-part docuseries created by Compassion Australia that explores the reality of poverty and how it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This series gives a voice to the real stories of people living in poverty with an aim to seek truth, understanding and compassion. Through this series, we explore the complexity of poverty and its devastating effects on the lives of vulnerable children. We look at the impacts of Compassion’s holistic approach to development and dive into what the Bible says about poverty. The docuseries uncovers what it truly means for us to be a a good neighbour to those who need our compassion the most.

Episode one: What is Poverty? from The Good Neighbour docuseries explores poverty. One of the great dreams of humanity is to be part of a thriving neighbourhood with safe housing, a stable income and a sense of community that creates connection and belonging. This reality for many is starkly different depending on where they were born. Creating community, loving others—even strangers—and caring for one another are all part of being a good neighbour. What does it mean to be a good neighbour to children living in poverty?
